Handle With Care Portal for Ohio Schools and First Responders

The Handle With Care Portal is free notification software for participating Ohio Handle With Care communities. First responder agencies send a Handle With Care notice to a child's school after a potentially traumatic event, helping school staff provide trauma-informed support. Notices do not include incident narratives or details about what happened.

Who uses the portal?

Law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other participating first responder agencies submit notices. Authorized school, district, county, and state program teams receive and manage the notices for their communities.

How does it support a Handle With Care program?

  • Notice submission for first responder agencies (law enforcement, fire, EMS, courts)
  • Email and in-app notifications for assigned administrators
  • Role-based access for school, district, county, and state admins
  • Routing to the appropriate school and program teams, with follow-up when a notice needs attention
  • Public participation maps to help communities find their local program
